Lilia Boyadjieva - Concert Pianist

Born and educated in Sofia, Bulgaria, Lilia Boyadjieva completed her studies at the Moscow Conservatory with Professor T. D. Gutman. Her awards at international piano competitions include prizes at Senigalia (Italy - 1979), Vianna da Motta (Portugal - 1983) and Maria Callas (Greece - 1985).

Lilia Boyadjieva’s repertoire extends from J.S. Bach – for whose music she entertains a very deep admiration and appreciation – to 20th century music for which she feels a special affinity.  She has worked extensively on Samuel Barber and Shostakovich as well as on most Bulgarian and Greek composers.  Audiences at every performance are invariably enthralled, surprised, sometimes disturbed but never indifferent.

She has been particularly acclaimed for her performances and recordings of the piano works of Samuel Barber, which critics have described as among the finest ever made.

Lilia Boyadjieva pursues a brilliant soloist career in Europe, where she performs in solo recitals, with orchestras and with chamber music ensembles. Her concerts have been extensively broadcast on radio and television organizations, and she has appeared in festivals in Montpellier, Auvers-sur-Oise, Sofia and Athens.

A gifted and inspiring teacher, Lilia Boyadjieva has taught at the Sofia Musical Academy, in Athens and Paris (CNR, Schola Cantorum), and has given numerous master classes in Greece, France and in the U.S.A.

“… Lilia Boyadjieva's appeal lies in her delicacy, the clarity of the sound planes, her understanding of varied moods and a touch that is always subtly measured …"  Le Monde de la Musique, France

“…Probably the most valuable CD solely devoted to Barber’s keyboard music… the Piano Sonata … played with an extraordinary combination of both power and delicacy … is one of the finest readings on record...”  Fanfare, USA (Walter Simmons)

“A glorious display of technical mastery (splendidly strung runs, absolutely clear resonances through extremely wise pedal use) and brilliantly beautiful sound” [Barber Piano Concerto] Imerisia, Greece
